But then, I'm a Bernie supporter and I KNOW how important climate change can be, and we have to do something NOW!!!!

Non believers still think this is all bullshit, and will again, vote against their own best interest.

It amazes me how stupid people really are.

2. She may even be understating it . . .
Fri Jan 1, 2016, 11:49 AM

. . . because she's looking only at where the problem starts, the climate. Huge storms, blistering heat, bizarre cold spells -- these things are bad enough in themselves. But look at what they bring.

Warming brings sea level rise, which threatens coastal cities with flooding. Drought and extremes of temperature threaten agriculture, on which we all depend for our food. With rain replacing snow in some places, the snow pack that melts every spring and supplies water for the whole year will be much less, so there will be water shortages.

Perhaps most frightening, warming brings more warming, and thus more of all these afflictions. As Arctic sea ice melts, there is less white surface to reflect sunlight back into space, and more dark ocean surface to soak it in. And as temperatures have risen, methane that was trapped in permafrost and beneath the ocean has been released. Methane, a more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, traps heat in the atmosphere.

It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

3. The argument will change at some point in the near future

No longer will they claim that climate change is a hoax.

When reality is staring them in the face, they will declare that it's too late to do anything about it, so why abandon the behaviors that caused the problem in the first place?

18. I bet some Republican will say, "No one could have predicted this extreme global warming."

See, if you add the word "extreme" to it, they can claim all the predictions said "mild" global warming. Why should they have worried about mild 1 or 2 or 7 degrees of warming? C'mon, can you really tell the difference between 72 and 74 degrees? When Americans start dying by the thousands from extraordinary heat waves, maybe the public attitude will reach a tipping point.

Hey who knows for certain what is going on, but it sure would be better to move off our massive use of old dinosaur gizzards (oil/coal/gas) and onto better things like wind/solar/fusion.

Check out this "Science Catfight" between the lady on the RT video Brenda Ekwurzel and Joe Bastardi on the old Colbert show:

13. Precisely. US media has been traditionally bad but acceptable.

Recently it has been transformed into something ridiculously bad. People mistakenly place trust in what are lies of omission.

She brought up the contrast in weather of the past, so I tried to educated her a bit. Now, she's not speaking! Wow! Just happened.

Sorry to interject a personal story but it's on my mind.

I entered the "morbid curiosity" phase on this subject ten years ago, when I realized that even IF the world governments take effective action (and that they flat fucking will not) it's already too late.

Just resigned, because, as you say, it's too late.

The rest don't know it's coming. Considering the threat that climate change poses to the continued existence of the human race -- and who knows how many other species -- the media coverage it has gotten is way too little

14. There's a commonality among the deniers and resistors

Not one of them is young enough to live through any of it.

Just one thing, though. Humans are not in jeopardy, as a species. Our population will suffer a major, major drop. Our civilizations will rumble, then topple. Our technology will fall under the dust. But as one of the fauna of this planet, we're going to persist. Some of our ancestors lived at the foot of glaciers. others scratch a full life out of the depths of the kalahari. As a species, we'll live on. We might get stuck at the far northern latitudes (maybe southern, if the changes bring water to new places) but we'll be around.

Hell, might even begin to re-speciate after a few tens of thousands of years

12. Why aren't more people scared?

Because more people get their news from corporate media, sponsored by oil companies, than from Thom Hartmanm.

my place has been colder than usual. I am using the space heater more, and even my larger space heater cause my blankets don't seem to retain much heat. Even my cat is sleeping with me more to stay warm. His fur seems thicker this year. I have been spending more times in the shower just to heat up... San Francisco was never this cold during the winter.. and being by the Ocean probably doesn't help ...
