(182,603 posts)Back in the 90's, before I was at all politically active, I kept running into people who had no reaction when a Seinfeld reference was made. Seinfeld was everywhere and omnipresent in casual discourse. I found that it was almost a badge of honor for conservatives to have never seen an episode and to proclaim it. Throwing a Seinfeld line into a group turned out to be a great detector of conservatives.
Satire and irony as well. As you said it simply doesn't seem to register with them.

The part where both of them try to get the guard to open the gate was pretty funny, especially the second time. President Obama asked the guard and afterward he said "I knew that wouldn't work." Then Seinfeld replied to him "you didn't sell it."
