The Benefit Of Government-Owned Lands

Will public land be a Fall issue? Which party is favored if this issue is exploited to divide people? Is the #OregonStandoff tail wagging this dog?

More than a quarter of all land in the United States is owned by the Federal Government. How is it used, and does it benefit Americans?
Why Does The U.S. Government Own So Much Land In The West? bit.ly/1ZQS1TV

since he frames it with "Should the government own so much land in the west?" Actually each phrase is incorrect but I'll start here.

So "own" is incorrect because it is actually "we the people" who "own" the public lands. The government manages/administrates these properties with regard to the public trust doctrine. It's what our taxes are supposed to support rather than wars. That's why it's federal employees who work at and tend to these lands and facilities.

The question of "should" is interesting since it was to protect from development and in perpetuity that we decided to have our overall governing body have nationwide power rather than the states since, as seen in many western states, one governor can trash and entire ecosystem to get more cash in his pocket.

It's also instructive to recognize that when these western states became states they ceded a lot of land to protection by the federal government thus the people assumed ownership. How it is managed has been a point of conflict for a long time and mostly due to a lack of education and butt hurt on the part of those who disagree.

To answer the question asked by the video guy...

F!, yeah! You expect Disneyland to come and manage concessions in Yellowstone and think that there won't be ziplines in the Canyon within a year or two? There's already a push from some idiots in Congress wanting to allow river rafting inside Yellowstone. But then again, I know better than to anticipate that the Discovery Channel could grasp anything beyond promoting the corporate line... which would be in favor of privatizing the parks.

Article. 1 Section. 8 Clause. 17
U.S. government does not own any land. But the U.S. government is the caretaker of the land , for the people as a whole. We the people own that land. Not the rancher, not the oil companies, not the logging companies and not the miners. U.S. governments job is to manage our land and keep it safe so it will be there for our great grand children to in joy. Federal Government is not taking any thing. But there are some who would like to use our land for profit and give nothing back.
