A lot of people think it's the best thing ever. However, it does sound like the real guy was quite a bad ass.

For one thing, he did put a splint on his broken leg and the men from the party killed the bear. It was also along the Missouri River not up in the Canadian Rockies. It drove me nuts that he didn't put a splint on his leg in the latest film. If you are going to walk 200 miles that would pretty much be imperative. Or maybe he did but I missed it?

Fred Manfred did incredible research and it drives me crazy that people keep making movies but never use his book nor does anyone give him credit for the book he wrote.
