Related: About this forumRepublican Governor Knowingly Poisoned City Of Flint Michigan
The crisis actually began about 18 months ago when Republican governor Rick Snyder made the decision to balance the citys budget at the expense of the health and safety of residents of Flint. The governor and his appointed budget experts decided to save the city some money by switching their water supply from the city of Detroits supply to the Flint River, and according to Occupy Democrats, this river was known to be both highly polluted and carried an unusually high salt content. The high salinity of this water caused the citys pipes to begin eroding, which then leached lead into the citys water.

(21,739 posts)Not a word about a Reublican Governor poisoning an entire city in his own backyard, but an incoherent tirade against Democrats Obama and Clinton about a bullshit conspiracy theory in Benghazi.
Think this has anything to do with Republican politics at all?

(34,661 posts)Where was the Mayor(a democrat)in all this. Suddenly we have a disaster, why? Things do not happen in a vacuum. Seems to everyone, the records of the amount and quality of a Cities drinking water sources are of public record, and where was the outrage by the Mayor and City Council? Is the Corruption that blatant. It seems to be way past time that this city gets a total house cleaning.

(402 posts)When Governor Snyder took office he pretty much neutered any of the elected officials, including the mayor and city councils in all the towns of Michigan. Instead, he appointed City Managers, that were NOT elected by the people, and who were accountable to ONLY the Governor. The blame here belongs solely with Rick Snyder and the people he anointed ( I mean, appointed). He belongs in prison. These children will suffer the consequences of this decision to take water from a river that is so caustic that even GM wouldn't use it to wash their cars, for the rest of their lives.

(34,661 posts)with the Democratic Party in Michigan. Understand the results. Everyone turned a blind eye to the corruption in Michigan's largest Cities. Watched the Retugs spin these issues and the rest is what you see. Do understand the Koch Bros pumped millions into campaigns through bogus front names. Of course the home grown clown family Devoe had a field day beating the snot out of African American Community and their association to the Corrupt Leadership.
Again we see what happens when a fat and sassy group that thinks they can do know wrong and it's do as I say and not as I do. First it was the Democrats, and now it appears the Rethugs may have screwed the pooch.

The decisions were all made by the Governor's appointed Emergency Managers, state agencies, and the Governor by extension.
Remember that the emergency manager law was voted down by state ballot referendum and then again made law by the republican legislature. They made sure the second version would not be subject to the will of the people by attaching a monetary component which shielded it from the referendum process.
This is not America.

(9,372 posts)was this an 'experiment' of the uber-RightWing - as was the union-busting experiment in Wisconsin under Gov. Walker or the insane tax policies in Kansas under Gov. Brownback??

(3,522 posts)At first I was like "sheesh, yeah let's blame Obama", but then he went on to say Obama's appointed head of the EPA was made aware of lead in the Flint city drinking water almost a year ago and also did nothing about it.
I'm as skeptical as the next guy when it comes to the "blame Obama" crowd, but if this is true is does raise some questions. Anybody got info on this point?

(13,088 posts)The National Guard consists of 7 people who are residents of Flint, Michigan.
They have been drinking the lead laden water.
It is now their job to pass out bottled water.
7 people does not equate deploying the National Guard.
