When Did “Hope and Change” Turn Into “Settle and Aim Low”?

Why have so many progressives become so cynical? Why are they telling us that change isn’t possible, and that’s why we should ignore Bernie Sanders? Don’t listen to the cynics – change is possible, but only if those people step out of the way.

Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.

I couldn't read it because I refuse to pay them for access. Often I can find the same or very similar article elsewhere on the Web. So, I don't really know what it was about besides politics.

ANYWAY, the comments section is usually accessible if you click on COMMENTS mulitiple times. In there I found quite a few Bernie supporters but -

Rant, part 1: multiple commenters asserting that Clinton should be president and Sanders v.p. or secretary of treasury or something. I have often stated to these commenters that anything less than President is an insult to Senator Sanders. Their condescension was beyond belief. Lots of there-there paternalistic head-pats for the starry-eyed-want-a-unicorn Sanders supporters tut tut tut [snicker].

Rant, part 2: multiple commenters also denigrated Sanders and supporters for being naiive, unrealistic, ignorant of the real world blah blah blah. Settle for what you can get is also found here, along with the arrogant know-it-alls speechifying to us alleged neophytes.

Settle, aim low, BEHAVE and vote for Clinton. That's a hell of a message.

I am fed up with it.

As if we are being conditioned to lower expectations and accepting the status quo.

And I suspect these people are doing well, perhaps with a fat stock portfolio and a high paying job in some corporation...change is not what they want. And they don't give a shit about the rest of the nation.

And nothing matters but getting one elected for the first time.
As if this is a game of firsts.

President Sanders' inauguration speech. And I'll be coming from CA to D.C. to hear it in person.

18. when the lies fail

When the lies fail and the mask comes off - it will be "shut up and know your place".

It's always been about appeasing the masses with distractions while the ruling class plunders it all.

They still think they can lie and propaganda their way using the mass media - but it's getting more difficult and they're falling back to the next line of defense with "you're lucky it's not worse" or "it could be worse so vote me".

Eventually, if we don't change it now, it will be "shut up and do as you're told".

19. Farron, I think you are wrong. Things won't stay the same under Hillary.

Things will get worse.

The status quo is having a cumulative bad effect on the nature of the nation. Corporate influence is increasing, not staying the same. The standard of living for the American people is declining. The main reason is the trade deals. Hillary favors trade deals.

So, I disagree, things will get worse with Hillary.
