(45,984 posts)effectively saying that he isn't a liar. I also think Mitt could have said about himself a lot of what he said about Der Donald or Hillary. I'll forgive him the Republican talking points since he is both a Republican and a vulture capitalist.
Otherwise, what he had to say is pretty spot on.
Personally, I think Hillary Clinton would make a poor president and Donald Trump a disastrous one. That means I'll still vote for Hillary if she is the nominee, but to make it clear to everyone, that will be voting for the lesser of two evils.
I should also congratulate Mitt's speechwriter for making him sound so witty in spots.

Seriously, who is the targeted audience for this speech?
Could anyone possibly have less credibility with the average Trump supporter?

(893 posts)Some common ground for Bernie and Hillary supporters - Mitt Romney is a lying SOB who has the balls to call someone else out for being a phony. This is something I'd like to think would happen if there actually was/were a god/gods. Satire warning.
Mitt Romney Bursts into Flames After Calling Trump "Phony"
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (The Nil Admirari) - Earlier today, former Republican presidential nominee and Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney burst into flames while speaking to a group of conservatives opposed to Donald Trump being the 2016 Republican presidential nominee. Romney called Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump a "phony" prior to spontaneously combusting.

(953 posts)I never agree with Mitt's distorted ideas on how to solve our
problems. Mitt is one to lecture about greed. I think he's
carrying Faux Media water against Hillary Clinton. Very cynical.
Not to credit Obama for working hard like the other presidents is
a faux pas. Still not much respect in Mitt's world, and he always did
paint with too broad a brush, which undermines his message.
But I do feel Mitt is sincere in his warped view, at least he believes it.
Mitt is not lying here about Trump. I applaud his earnest and heartfelt
perspective. It is bold of him to step forward.

(13,297 posts)Having a twice-failed Presidential candidate tell voters how they should be doing things is only going to make them dig in their heels further... and probably reinforce they must be on the right track if establishment Republicans are trying to kick out the front runner.
This is deliciously tasty stuff.

The Republicans have no honor, no integrity. None whatsoever. They just spew whatever is convenient at the moment and The Don is no different.

(8,964 posts)Romney has more than likely helped to solidify Trump's base of support. I'm not even sure that the treasure trove of potential attack ad sound bites contained in the speech would help Dems much in the general election, given the source.

(12 posts)The Republican National Committee is in panic mode.
1) The GOP will come up with a reason to disavow Trump and tear up the agreement they made with him and free him to run as an Independent.
2) Trump will quit the GOP and vow to take his voters with him.
3) Mitt Romney will be drafted to enter the race and The GOP will secretly offer to pay Trump back the money he wasted on his campaign - plus a little profit - if he drops out and endorses Romney which he will, of course do.
4) Mitt Romney will get the nomination in a brokered convention.
5) Bernie Sanders will win the Presidency.

(8,377 posts)Mitt is dreaming of the scenario where Trump has the most delegates, but not 50%. Second in line is Cruz, whom everybody hates. From there you drop off to the lightweight who can't win his own state or the "brain surgeon" who can't seem to put a rational thought into a single sentence.
With a brokered convention, why not Mitt? Sure, he lost to that black guy, but no way he loses to a woman -- why isn't she off in the kitchen baking cookies anyway?
