That represent them and protect this kind of behavior.

It's almost impossible to get rid of the miscreants and that needs to be changed.

They are not part of the traditional labor movement.

They can kill and get away with it, as we've seen far too often.

In fact, cops often bust heads of union members in labor actions.

In this case, the cop broke the law, the union advocated for him, but in the end he got a four year prison sentence for this because he was PROVEN to have broken the law. Last time I checked, that's the way things SHOULD work.

acts and worse across the nation, and if they were in fact doing so much of this that it led to this, there would be a huge epidemic of the side effects, such as dying.

Yet tens of thousands go on to retire. Those facts don't fit together. There is far too much violence to be explained away with a drug.

It happens, (I was in a place - medical - to see it for years, and it does occur, but not as much as one might think), but it is more of a distraction than an explanation in the vast majority of cases.

Police would rather be called drug-abusers than racist bullies, bigots, or simply thugs, but absent the other excuses, that's what they are, and it disrespects their victims to say otherwise. It also prevents us from fixing the real problems. Ferguson, MO for example.

Cops should have to pee in the cup. I worked in a union shop and if you were involved in a injury accident you peed in in the cup. Weren't fired, but you would be in rehab and pee in the cup every week from then on.

His action are way to cool and calm. Watch after the tazing. He drags the man and calmly drops the man on the curb. No there is some deep seated mental illness here. This cop is F'ed up.

Roid rage is uncontrolled and crazy. This cop is very scary.

A good example of why you should lock your doors.

arresting cop's report:

Matt called the FBI agents he met on Monday. “You see what’s happening here,” Matt told them. “They’re working it backwards.” Matt’s experience as a cop taught him that officers can sometimes write themselves out of trouble through exaggerated and self-serving reports. “Whenever you see these officers come out with a use of force, whether it be a shooting or a tasering or a whatever, there are phrases that always go in those reports, that we’ve been trained to put in there,” Matt said. “And so many times that’s just like an ‘insert quote here’ in your report because that’s going to cover your ass.”

Matt saw the phrasing and knew Runnels was looking for ways to justify both the stop and the attempted arrest. Matt suspected that once it was clear the warrant association to the car wasn’t sufficient probable cause for an arrest, Runnels needed new justifications. Since smell is subjective, and difficult to prove, officers can use “marijuana odor” broadly to justify probable cause, Matt said. “Cops use that all the time” <emphasis added>.

OK...this is just nuts. This is just the way the cop responded to Sandra Bland.

She did not react the way he wanted to he escalated the situation when it didn't need to be.

This kid probably knew his rights, being the son of a cop, but I understood, after the Sandra Bland case that you have to follow orders from the cops, whether they are arresting you or not.

So, how are innocent people really supposed to know what rights they actually have when dealing with a cop treating them like some kind of criminal and they know they've done nothing wrong?

Apparently he died for eight minutes too, after being tased for 23 seconds to his heart. https://theintercept.com/2016/06/07/tased-in-the-chest-for-23-seconds-dead-for-8-minutes-now-facing-a-lifetime-of-recovery/

Broke and chipped a bunch of his teeth and dislocated his jaw.

According to the surgeon though, it was the tasing sending him into cardiac arrest and no attempt to restart the heart, so he had loss of oxygen for at least 8 minutes, which caused brain damage. Apparently that causes swelling of the brain. They had to put him into an induced coma to chill his body down to try to prevent swelling of the brain. It worked. But, at the scene, nobody checked his pulse or tried CPR...they just waited for the ambulance and the ambulance didn't even seem to know it was an emergency. they said with his level of brain damage (level 3 which is the worst) it was a miracle he pulled out of it. But he did and a week later he left the hospital (with lots of problems that needed physical therapy, and some problems that are permanent and have forever changed his life and abilities.

The cop knew who he was and targeted him to pull him over for marijuana, with no evidence that he had any or was using.

And whomever said it up above, if his dad hadn't been a cop, none of this would have been uncovered and the grand jury would have probably let him go. The FBI were called in and they (and the dash cam) are the reason he got put away. Even on the dash cam, you can see him telling the paramedics that Bryce walked over to the side of the road, not that he had to drag an limp body over there. He's just lying through the whole thing.

This is very good reporting...and it's hard to read, but worth it. And interesting how his own father tries to justify the cops' actions by assuming his son did something to deserve it. It's not until he sees the video that he gets to the truth.

I'm so glad this kid survived, but there are so many who don't, and most of them are not white kids with a cop for a dad.

Geeze...even the whole police department were tailing and mocking and teasing Bryce after he was able to drive again...they all bought into this cop's rendition of what happened.

And then this cop finally gets kicked off the force for making a 'n**gger' joke to some of his buddies. Somebody turned him in for that.

The guy was just an asshole.

Here is the link to the full story...you gotta read it to believe it.

I don't know. But the fact that this cop was actually sentenced to four years in prison for this will help to move things in the right direction.

The next thing that has to stop is right wing politicians trying to pass laws that prevent citizens from videoing police while they're doing their jobs. And after that, the next thing that has to stop is police NOT doing their jobs because they're afraid of being caught on video doing something illegal, like abusing suspects.

If you can't do your job without breaking the law, then QUIT, and find something else to do for a living.

As his mom and dad moved in to take a closer look, he spat out little pieces of his teeth. At least three were sheared in half and several others badly chipped. His face was swollen, and they later found out that his jaw was likely dislocated, but popped back into place.

This cop had it out for him because he'd stopped him before and found marijuana. This time there was no marijuana involved, but the cop tried to use the smell of marijuana as his excuse for arresting Bryce.

When are we going to stop killing and locking up kids over marijuana? Jeezus! This is insane.

His dad is Matt...this is what he told his son after the second incident.

Matt was furious. He and Stacy sat Bryce down. They told him that they were disappointed he was smoking marijuana but that his civil rights had been violated. Matt told him that if an officer ever stopped him, he had every right to know why he was being stopped, and whether he was under arrest. The conversation was still fresh in Bryce’s mind on September 14 when Officer Runnels pulled him over.

So, he almost died because he thought he deserved more info than he was getting and resisted.

Curtis (a friend of Bryce) told them it was one of the cops who had stopped them earlier that summer. It was Timothy Runnels.
So the cop already considered Bryce a problem.

the prosecution agreed that the initial Taser use was reasonable and within common police practice
For 23 seconds to the chest?

Matt learned that on October 12, 2009, Taser International, the Scottsdale, Arizona-based maker of conducted electrical weapons, released a training bulletin suggesting that officers should avoid shooting suspects in the chest whenever possible.

Bryce’s brain was deprived of oxygen for six to eight minutes while he was in cardiac arrest. It was the Taser that almost killed Bryce.

This really needs to be addressed. We, as the public, deserve the right to know how to react to police and what rights we have and what rights they have. And our children need to be taught this as well.

Because right now too many people are being killed and/or injured by police because they resist being attacked for no reason.

How do we teach our kids how to be safe? How do we learn our rights (without every person having to look it up on-line for themselves. We need public service messages. We need cops to go to high schools (if not sooner) to explain to kids how to react if they are ever stopped by a cop.
