German sharks

a child during the second world war and I still remember a lot of these planes from that era. I had my favorites, the P-38 Lightning, The P-61 Black widow and the B-26 Martin Marauder come to mind. The Corsair and the Mustang were also my childhood favorites.

Civilian wise it would have to be the Lockheed Constellation. At the old St. Louis airport then known as Lambert Field you could walk up to the hangars for the small private planes right on the field. They also had an open observation deck where you could watch up close the starting routines of planes like the Constellation firing up the engines. Ah, nostalgia. Certainly a different era.
