The only ones I didn't hear were those relating to how you look when you're pregnant/had a baby, but only because I didn't have kids. Otherwise every last one was depressingly familiar. Especially galling were the admonitions to smile. I hated that.

I expected a lot of those. I struggled with weight all my life, yo yo-ing over the same 30 or more pounds. I got- pretty much- daily remarks of fat shaming from childhood (family) and middle school (other kids) on. Even at my bottom weight, I got remarks: not thin enough. Now that I'm in my late 60's, I've been a stable 120 for some years mostly because I live alone and have control. People I meet are thinking I was always this way, so they don't see why I'm so distrustful or offish. But I thought these were pretty mild. I wish I'd had mild, well-meaning comments like that instead of what I endured.

My abusive father said the emotional ones to me after he belittled and beat me as a child.

Thank you for reminding us that abusers are looking for victims everywhere. And that the rest of us must unite against them and take care of each other!

sadly. I don't have kids so didn't get those but the 'why don't you have kids' one, especially painful when I really wanted them.

I cringed. I've said a few of those things. I try not to say "You're pretty". But that last comment - you USED to be pretty. For a woman who was, that must just be a sock in the gut.
