(115,656 posts)The only ones I didn't hear were those relating to how you look when you're pregnant/had a baby, but only because I didn't have kids. Otherwise every last one was depressingly familiar. Especially galling were the admonitions to smile. I hated that.

(590 posts)I expected a lot of those. I struggled with weight all my life, yo yo-ing over the same 30 or more pounds. I got- pretty much- daily remarks of fat shaming from childhood (family) and middle school (other kids) on. Even at my bottom weight, I got remarks: not thin enough. Now that I'm in my late 60's, I've been a stable 120 for some years mostly because I live alone and have control. People I meet are thinking I was always this way, so they don't see why I'm so distrustful or offish. But I thought these were pretty mild. I wish I'd had mild, well-meaning comments like that instead of what I endured.

(4,296 posts)Thank you for reminding us that abusers are looking for victims everywhere. And that the rest of us must unite against them and take care of each other!

(8,282 posts)sadly. I don't have kids so didn't get those but the 'why don't you have kids' one, especially painful when I really wanted them.

(6,145 posts)I cringed. I've said a few of those things. I try not to say "You're pretty". But that last comment - you USED to be pretty. For a woman who was, that must just be a sock in the gut.
