(2,170 posts)Is a broadcast network?...meaning you can get an antenna and watch it free.

(4,642 posts)I used to be able to but since the FCC buckled to their corporate handlers and forced digital on us I can only get Fox and ABC. In the analog days I could get all the networks, no problem.

(2,170 posts)Do you have?...I found the best antenna is the Clearstream CSM1-XG.you can find them on Ebay open box or like new for around $10-$15.I pull in a very low power station that nothing else would even come close with this antenna.

(4,642 posts)but CBS and NBC are over 70 miles away so really no option for digital. Analog made it fine. I used to get stations as far away as CO when the skip rolled in with analog. Anyway, not a good system unless you live near a big city but thanks for the ant. tip. I'm a ham radio operator and have built my own antennas for 40 years, have talked as far away as New Zealand working only 2 watts from Michigan when conditions were right. With digital, its all about mega power and line of sight communications.

(2,170 posts)You had an outdoor antenna.thats better than the antenna I suggested.it's an indoor antenna.I use to talk on CB years ago and talked long distance but never to New Zealand.what city are those CBS and NBC affiliates in?..I know the stations here in Nashville run like a million watts and we have towers 1400 feet.I'm in South Nashville but just a few miles from any station.

(4,642 posts)are the cities that I can't get useful reception from. Abc is based in GR but has a sub station, relay transmitter just 4 miles S of me so they come in fine. I also receive Fox (which includes This and Antenna network) & 3 PBS channels from GR but NBC WoodTV just doesn't have the antenna radiation pattern that the others have even though they run a massive five million watts. With an indoor antenna I can only get The ABC station.
I started out with CB before the late 70's craze. I could talk to GR with my 4 watt base which is about 50 miles away. That was before skip became a problem. I got my ham license in 76 but it was morse code only so I still used CB & did enjoy the CB craze days very much, it was a lot of fun.
