bash locally. The regional Bud reps were there and all the distributor guys from miles around. We got to watch the big national convention speech from "Auggie" Busch III I think. What he told that place full of distributor owners and other big shots was really amazing looking back on it.

Busch III's message was kind of a be careful what you wish for thing. He knew much of his audience was anti-union. He went on about how they all made their money selling a high quality premium beer to hard working people that made good money and could afford it. The downhill spiral was already beginning though. Before about that time, we didn't sell any cheap beer. That was what some of our local competition did. That was going to change dramatically though.

In the next few years, AB started distributing the cheaper Busch beer line out west. Coors did the same thing with Keystone. They were forced to. You beat down the working class but still need to keep your breweries running full capacity, you start running batches of cheaper beer. Any way you run the numbers, sending a truck out part loaded with that crap, you were working harder to make less per case on the average.
