When Workers Form Unions, They Improve Jobs, Communities!

Published on Mar 1, 2017
When workers are free to form unions, they can improve their workplaces and their communities by challenging the low-road route of supply chains and big corporations that tries to make low-wages, and poor working conditions the norm.

I wonder if anyone has ever seen an older film by the name of "Matewan". It was about one of those coal-mining states where the workers tried to form unions. Working conditions were horrendous, they owed money to the company store for all their food and supplies, they were paid peanuts. This was before social security so they basically had to work until they died and of course a lot of them died either in mine accidents or illness (black lung being one of them). Union workers infiltrated these places to get miners to strike. They risked their lives doing so. When they finally did strike some of them were shot and killed. This film was based on an actual occurrence It is a powerful film and I recommend that anyone who has a chance to see it do so

Thank you - will check in again from time to time! Hope that you are hanging in there in these troublesome times! I just discovered this website and it really helps to chat or exchange thoughts with people who have some commonsense. It makes a person feel less alone in dealing with this crap!
