The only way they can win elections these days, with the very shifting demographics of our nation stacked against them, is to con the voters in a kind of bait and switch operation. The same could also be said for corporatist Democrats, for that matter, but the situation isn't as extreme as it is with the Republican party. Especially when the Republicans feel a strange, sadistic need, born of Santa envy, to strip away everything that the Democrats have given our country since the New Deal.
