If we can get 24 million of them; we'd have a hell of a REVOLT against a Con Man

"I accepted a sexist, racist, homophobic nationalist with absolutely no track record of success other than his own boasts over the most qualified candidate to ever run for office. Now I'm surprised it's not working out for me personally."
I've made a mistake doesn't cut it.

(6,347 posts)He "made a mistake" voting for trump.
I doubt he thinks he made a mistake supporting a party that, at it's core, is anti-government, self-serving, power at any cost. I doubt he thinks his 30 years (I know, he's probably only 35...but generically) of support for a party rooted in "Government is the problem"...I doubt he can connect the dots between that philosophy and voting for a guy who will destroy the government.
I don't want to see a parade of people looking backward, hanging their heads telling me what they did wrong. I want to see what they're going to do differently in 2018 and beyond.
Maybe the better sign would be "I made a mistake and I will forever vote for democrats over racists".
But no - you're probably right. He's isolating trumps asshat-ness and incompetence from "real republicans" when in fact, Trump might just be the purest, most honest embodiment of the republican philosophy without all the political smiles and non-answers.

(2,065 posts)When it came to biggest political con in American history. And all of Trump's glaring and monumental shortcomings were right out there on public display - it was certainly no secret. Its as if they all, like lemmings, followed uncle Jim Jones and took a toxic brain cyanide brew of a dumbed down, dysfunctional education system that kills the critical, independent thinking so essential to a democracy; worship and idolization of worthless celebrity TV stars, and Russian hacking, trolling and fake news manipulation of our election.
Former posters are right in that will this guy really connect the dots and see that the con man is merely the front guy, the distraction that covers the Republican destruction of all the democrats have fought so long and hard to build for our nation? Will the Republican brand be damaged beyond repair from this fiasco, or will it carry on after Trump is dumped as if nothing ever happened? As was said, it's not that big of a leap from the whole Republican "small government" BS to the "destroy the government" mantra of Steve Bannon. Voter frustration with the current gridlock of partisan politics in Washington has blinded all these morans to all the good that a well functioning government and presidential administration CAN do for the nation, which these retards unfortunately took for granted.
What is government for? and, What standards of basic professionalism and competence should we demand of our leaders? should be the questions these disillusioned Trumpies should be asking themselves in preparation for the future, so they can say, along with George W Bush: Fool me once - can't fool me again!
