If they had been able to coalesce around one version, it would have been horrible, and we could have done nothing to stop it. Only because the Republicans are so lame as to try to outdo each other in showing how heartless they can be--THAT is why Trump failed. He and Pence show no leadership, and thus the various factions of the Evil Empire would rather fight among themselves than fight their constituents (or us). Maybe it will last, and maybe it won't, but make no mistake--this is not our victory. It is their failure. I'm not knocking that, because the effect is the same, but it is all the worse for them because they had this handed to them on a silver platter, and STILL didn't manage to pull it off.

Watch out if the Republicans get tired of looking like the disorganized angry, selfish oafs they currently portray. We won't be celebrating any more if that happens.

This is what Sanders has been doing for years - taking credit for something for which he personally had nothing to do.

Bernie has been fighting for single payer health care for years. The failure to overturn Obamacare, and the resulting openness to discuss it's benefits and shortcomings fits with his long term goal of helping all Americans, not just one party or another.

...during the debate to institute single payer in Vermont, he chose not to get involved, saying in effect that it would be too expensive.

There was no vote yesterday, so again "we" did nothing but sit back and watch the republicans destroy their own bill and humiliate themselves. Good!

How many times has he introduced "single payer health care" in the House or the Senate during his close to three decades in Washington?

PS - this has nothing to do with the primary.

Let's take the win! Yes Republicans screwed themselves but don't think that Americans, organized by progressive organizations, jamming the phone lines, attending town hall meetings and having demonstrations had nothing to do with it. There is a movement to fight these guys. Even if they had convinced the heartless "Freedom Caucus" to vote for it it would never have passed in the Senate. Bernie Sanders is one of the guys who is helping to get people organized and fight back. What is so wrong with that? He's not taking credit, he's saying we did it so why stop the momentum. We, meaning progressives and anyone wanting to preserve or/and improve healthcare. We all know that Obamacare as it is needs some work. It was a great start and has helped millions of people but with insurance companies pulling out of certain states, no negotiating power with pharmaceuticals and Republicans wanting to sabotage it, we need to stay vigilant. He is also saying that while the momentum is there lets push for the ultimate fix, which would be Single Payer. It will never pass with the Republicans in control, but you start the negotiating process. That would finally get the insurance companies and pharmaceuticals in line, like it is in the rest of the world. Good Grief, stop bashing someone who is fighting for us. We need all the fighters we can get with Trump and his minions in power.

Bernie Sanders Shares His Blueprint for Resisting Trump

Republican leadership failed to secure enough votes from Congress Thursday to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) attributes its failure to a burgeoning resistance movement.

On Thursday, the Vermont senator explained how civic engagement translates into policy changes in the nation's capital.

"Republicans historically had their town meetings. Thirty or 50 of their friends would show up, and they talked about cutting the deficit and cutting Social Security and Medicare, and everybody would applaud," he told Rachel Maddow Thursday. "But now you've seen people coming and saying, if you do this, my wife is going to die and I'm not going to let you do that."

Bernie Sanders: Dems should get credit for killing AHCA

Sen. Bernie Sanders and President Donald Trump seem to agree on one thing when it comes to the failure of the GOP health care bill: Blame the Democrats.

"Democrats should take credit for killing a really, really bad piece of legislation," the Independent senator from Vermont told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Friday night.

Claiming Republicans defeated themselves is absurd - if leaders like Bernie hadn't helped organize and energize resistance at town halls and rallies Trumpcare would have passed. There was also a huge backlash against Republicans who want to repeal the ACA on social media.

We won because enough Republicans in the house realized that if they sided with Trump instead of the people they would lose their jobs.

WE did this and Bernie recognizes that fact. Resistance matters.

Thank you Bernie for your efforts to save the ACA and for reminding people that health care is a basic human right. We can do better - we need single payer universal health care.

How come you don't? Those town halls, marches, phone calls, letters, post cards, valentines etc. were not organized by Bernie or that well funded entity run by Weaver.

WE did this, WE organized, WE did the work, OUR energy came from OUR anger at the outcome of this election, because WE knew something was terribly wrong. It was not due to Bernie, or any other Senator or Rep. Claiming that all praise be heaped upon Bernie and some paternalistuc reminder of something we already knew is ludicrous. Perhaps you needed Bernie to tell you that healthcare is important, most of us did not. Most of us like tbe ACA, even if it is not the pink of perfection, we understand its affect on our daily lives.

Be like Bernie and thank those actually responsible, and stop with this "all praise be upon Bernie" nonsense. Even he is not so blind as to lay claim to the stolen valor some are laying with worshipful reverence at his feet.

Praise be to Democrats and progressives who do the hard work, day in and day out, and Pelosi and Schumer who marshall the Democratic forces in their respective houses, including the TWO independents who work with them.
