that being those of us who actually have an IQ that can be found to the right of "0" on a number line, don't ask why there was a civil war... we learned the answers to that in grade school.

See the posts below about the libraries full of books contemplating this topic.

However, you're right that Trump is very badly missing the mark here.

2. "Worked out"... Did he play hooky all through grade school?

How the hell do you "work out" slavery?
How would Trump have "worked out" white supremacy back then when he tacitly endorses it now?

There is no cure for Trump's stupidity.

"Mr. Trump, crack a book."

She's right. There must be hundreds of books that explain why there was a Civil War.

7. He has complete disdain for historians and intellectuals.

The woman who commented at the end put her finger on why Trump is such a bad president, he has no use for those who didn't vote for him (people who think and who value education). He doesn't care about public education, he's cutting library funding, even his own "Trump University" was a joke. He watches a lot of tv, likely not PBS or the history channel. He mocks intellectuals and science. He would be happier if everyone were dumb as a brick, like he is. I think a lot of his supporters also have a disdain for intellectuals and for education in general.

I guess Ken Burns is not someone tRump is familiar with. Maybe reruns of ROOTS is more entertaining. No wait, his attention span isn't long enough. Does Bugs Bunny have a Civil War Cartoon? Maybe that's more his speed.

But he can't figure out how to avoid the very real & present dangers of starting the NEXT wars, North Korea, etc, or bringing PEACE to our CURRENT conflicts.
Idiot.

Actually, I do realize he needs to blow up stuff.. & PEOPLE! ..to distract from all his failures & corruption, & bolster his so-called popularity.
SOB.

Dear Kharma💜come ON, already!!!

9. Seems to me that the Southern States benefitted from several negotiations prior to the Civil War
Mon May 1, 2017, 02:10 PM

They successfully bullied, I mean negotiated slavery issues over the course of many years...

And in the end they fucked themselves
(pun optional)

They believed their own propaganda
and effectively convinced themselves that the threat posed by the ongoing activism of some key Abolitionists was exponentially greater than it really was....
When Lincoln was elected they were so convinced that they were going to lose their 'way of life' / individual right to own human property and that seceding was their only option ....

Truth of the matter was that Lincoln was by no means an abolitionist.....

Lincoln - the man- allegedly believed in equality... up to a certain point...

Lincoln - the POTUS-- wanted to keep the union together... with or without slavery

Lincoln --the politician and objective citizen -- knew that slavery was a wedge/divisive issue and that no true unity would ever be attained as long as slavery remained a legal possibility.

Lincoln -- the lawyer-- knew the founding documents needed to be revised in order to clarify its applicability to 'people'... rather than 'men', etc

Lincoln-- the strategist-- saw the opportunity to set up a trap... and if the slave states took the bait... (seceded) it would open the door to revising the documents and eliminating the divisive issue.

Lincoln --the gambler-- bet that the temporary separation of states/union would ultimately lead to the creation of a permanent union far stronger than it ever had been...

and had a thought about him which he spoke out loud.

This is 45 in a sentence. Whatever or whomever is last around him, that's what he muses on, then onto the next thought that pops into his head.

Staggering that this man is President. Staggering.
