We know what they believe.

(11,238 posts)Earlier this week I saw a tweet that noted, on page 33 of the Congressional Budget Offices estimate of the Republicans health proposal, the CBO estimated that "outlays for Social Security benefits would decrease by about $3 billion over the 2017-2026 period. Because the Republican health bill would help people die sooner.

What tax on the 1% could they end for that amount?

(1,002 posts)And a lousy attempt at pretending to be disingenuous. I experienced a catastrophic illness which left me with a permanent brain injury after my Cobra expired. After I went through all my savings, my only medical care came from a low income medical clinic which had a two year wait list before you could be accepted as a patient. Had I gotten the medical care I needed back then, I might still be working (and paying taxes) instead of existing on a small SSDI check and medicaid. Outrageous!

(16,104 posts)That is our sad legacy, MM.
We all bought into the "American Dream," worked hard and played by the rules - and the outcome of our lives is a roll of the dice.
This would be a different America if our fellow citizens understood - "This can happen to you. Absolutely nothing is certain. Together, we can insure that NO ONE gets left behind! Not in the richest, most blessed country in the history of the world!"

(1,002 posts)Bad things can and do happen to good, hard working people every day. I had a great job which placed me securely in the middle class (or so I thought). Thanks to catastrophic illness and a lack of decent medical care, I went through all my financial resources and now scrimp by at the poverty line. Sadly, I am not alone. There are millions of Americans who can tell a variant of my story.

(9,426 posts)I beg to differ. My 45 year old son was laid off from a job he had worked at for 12 years. To keep his medical insurance it would cost $600 a month, from his unemployment. He really gambled on being called back to work, and having his benefits reinstated. He became ill, could not keep food or water down. He tried baby food and Ensure. I watched him become weaker and weaker. I told him I would pay for a doctor's appointment. He said "Mom, the doctor will send me for tests and I will be in debt for the rest of my life" Two weeks after he turned 45, his brother found him, dead at his house. Richest and most blessed? ONLY if you are born with lots of $$$. I despise everyone of these politicians who voted for the destruction of ACA. They sit in DC, lining their pockets, and act like royalty. I am 81, I want to live long enough to see everyone of these bastards voted out of office. I want tRump the unqualified IMPEACHED soon, before the idiot causes any more damage.

(37,648 posts)Why does HE go to the doctor? Maybe because he wants to live a long, healthy life? That means, by definition, that without health care, he would live a shorter, unhealthy life. DUH.
