He was even keel...if this thing happened because of this, that's fine. If it happened because of that, that's not fine and could be sort of like the Nixon massacre. He didn't express an opinion as to which reason for the firing might be true.

Shep was a little more skeptical of the firing.

Napolitano is a Mussolini-style fascist, bar none, and probably thinks Cheeto should be named Duce already.

He's not stupid though, and is only parsing his words to avoid being on the wrong side of this once Trump is forcibly removed from office.

because we DONT know the answers to some of the points brought up, there was no other real way to answer than give multiple options. I would bet trump would NOT like his statement at all

It was a "this or that" response and not a "I'm backin' my guy" response. Thing is...whether it's one thing or another (and we all know why Comey was really fired by Trump), but it's hard to prove intent.

the about face from Trump's public praise of Comey a few months back
hints that either, as Napolitano said, 'something happened' or this was an
attempt to impede.

Something happened like Comey's work with the grand juries, or asking for
more money to investigate?

FBI Directors hold 10 year appointments I think I read, to attempt to keep
them outside political influence. So why Comey's letter today admits they
can be fired at any time for any reason, and why this is not a big deal to
some is beyond me.

The two letters to 45 specifically mentioned a recommended firing as I recall,
so he fired him. It's like he is externalizing responsibility for the decision.
