"It isn't a real education"?!?

So I was at the mechanic's today waiting for tire and oil change and there is a TV and me and a nice older woman (I am in my 40s she might be mid 60s) We are pretending to be deep in busy work but you know how it is. This University of Phoenix Commercial come on: (Please watch)

The woman says to me. "I love that commercial. It shows how Great Americans are. Don't you love that commercial"?

Trying to be civil I gave a shrug and said, "Not fond of it -But I generally don't like commercials"
I hoped it would end the conversation. It didn't.

"How could anyone not love that commercial? It show how great we are as a nation."

I should have held my tongue but I let it rip. I basically told this woman that this commercial emphasizes what is wrong with America. People shouldn't have to work 2 jobs to pay a mortgage. If you have a two person income in the home as that commercial picture implies that it is a mother and father in the household YET one of more of the earning adults have to work 2 jobs. Why if you imply this commercial shows how great America why do those Americans need to work two jobs or jobs with long hours then find time to study? Why should knowledge in this country be so hard to get? We should have education free for anyone. That way EVERYONE should be able to further their knowledge for better jobs or just for the knowledge. Just like most Western European countries.

She looked appalled that I said what I did. "And that is what is wrong with this country. I am so glad President Trump is in office to make us Great again."
I called her on her statements. "Wait a minute you said that commercial shows how Great America is than you implied America isn't great that it needs Trump to make it great. So which is it?

"You are what is wrong with this country. You don't understand what it means to be an American."
"I was born in America and lived here all my life. I believe I know what it means to be American"
She was getting really annoyed now. "If you truly understand you wouldn't compare us to Europe which doesn't have REAL universities. Europeans don't have Real educations that is why America is always taking care of them."

I sat there stunned as she walked away.

Glad you said something. She will think about your conversation and maybe it will trigger a thought of much better life was before the she became so afraid of helping others.

It's toward the end.

"A degree is a degree."

No, not really...the University of Phoenix is not held to be a quality school by a very large number of employers.
