They know full well that someone with a few hundred thousand to their names is much more akin to the poor and working class than to the elites - but they prefer to ape the über-wealthy (who generally despise them) because they're aspirational figures.
Human nature, I suppose.

(43,064 posts)the government shouldn't be subsidizing wealthy houses. I see it all over. But it's more than that,
more than just opportunity. Other laws are used to keep little people down, or make them pay
excessive amounts. Debt. Deals. It's hard to break out of habits too. We keep doing the same dumb
things. Every purchase is regressive when you have low income. The entire system is designed to pass
the earnings and value of labor up the income scale. Those at the top have side businesses, we have
hourly wages. It's all self-reinforcing.
