""When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. 'Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.' "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, saying, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.""

Hey America, this is what "faith-based" politicians have to offer you: Prayers. And you're going to need them because you ain't getting help (or medical care, or living-wage jobs, or...)

Otherwise, prayers are just an impersonal accounting book of numbers. Do they mean anything?
If I amass 789,423 prayers from people I don't know, does it do anything for me here, or in the
afterlife? Does God keep a prayer ledger?
Hawaiian Kahunas could pray you to death, so those are negative entries, red prayer ink.

And Trump is doing NOTHING about that.
This nation has truly become a 'kick 'em while they're down' type of place. It is Democrats who traditionally try and pass legislation and set policies in place to mitigate that. Now, with Trump and his nazis, backed by Koch-funded radical libertarians, the forces of unrestrained capitalism will make Houston, as well as the rest of this nation, a brutal hell-hole where most people groan under wage slavery, economic insecurity, unsafe working conditions and a horrible quality of life.
Just so evil, despicable pieces of shit like Trump, the Mercers, Charles Koch and other billionaire scum can have good lives.
I'm not very down with that. How about you?

(1,068 posts)I can only imagine what it is like for anyone living in the areas hit by Hurricane Harvey. Up all day and dog tired. Hopes, thoughts, and prayers...I am sorry but that is all I have to send. From living on a fixed income.
The Canadian province of Quebec suffered its own brand of disaster just this past spring. Water flowing through the Saint Lawrence River crested at a very high level. When it did the city of Montreal had to deal with conditions of flooding. They are still trying to put their lives back together.
So when Minister Christine St-Pierre reached out with this offer it was with a memory of that experience fresh in her mind. The reply she got from this Pablos guy is...w3ll I do not have words for it. Nothing that I feel like writing here.

(5,914 posts)He's on the roof of his house praying over a Bible when a couple paddles up in a rowboat and asks him to jump in.
"Thanks," he says, smiling beatifically. "But no. The Lord will save me. God is great."
The two just shrug and row away.
Hours later, the flood waters rising, two policemen in a speedboat come by. "Please get in the boat, sir. It's not safe here!"
.
The man looks up from his Bible and hollers back, "I'm perfectly fine. The Lord will save me. God is great!"
Puzzled, the police officers turn and speed away to find others.
Finally, the man is standing on tiptoe on his roof, the waters neck deep. A National Guard helicopter arrives. A woman descends on a cable, holding a harness. "QUICK!" she screams, "GET IN!"
Tearful, the man shouts, "DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME! THE LORD WILL SAVE ME! GOD IS GREAT!"
The woman gestures to the pilot, and the chopper flies away.
The man drowns.
Fortunately, his sincere devotion delivers him to Heaven. There he encounters Jesus. He stomps up to him. "Why didn't you save me, Lord? I told EVERYONE you would!"
Jesus shrugs. "I sent two boats and a helicopter, you putz."
