(18,402 posts)I've been called for jury duty in Cook County several times. I live in the city, so showing up at the big criminal court was not too bad (though scary), and getting to one of the circuit courts in Daley Center is a piece of cake. But the county is huge, and mr. frazzled and I both have been assigned jury duty in some way way out burbs that can take well over an hour to get to. You have to leave by 6:30 am or so, and you'll still get stuck in traffic. I can't even imagine by train plus bus--you have to change, and I imagine it's a bitch.
So good luck, Obama. I hope they send you somewhere convenient and not out in the boonies.
Damn, I won't be serving on a jury with him, because I just got called this summer, and you can't be called within a year of appearing. I doubt anyone is going to put him on a jury anyway. Too smart for the lawyers or prosecutors to fool!
Sorry this is off topic, but did anyone notice all the NRA ads on here? Ive got screenshots but dont know how to post them. One was on the top right corner, and bottom left. Just thought it was weird, but dont know if they can be controlled.

Logged in gives me different ads other than NRA. (I have no clue about the star part)

(7,627 posts)It would be a huge burden for the courthouse to have to deal with the extra security and disruption. Besides, no lawyer would want president Obama to sit on a jury because it would disrupt it. Imagine jurors being star struck and going along with whatever President Obama says... or the opposite. Afraid to voice their opposition because he is a former president. Either way, its more trouble that it is worth.

(6,890 posts)I don't know how it works in every state but each time I got one, you call in the previous day to find out if you are needed. Usually they do batches and cut out half the people to begin with. Assuming you have to go, you end up going the morning and waiting for a couple of hours before you are again (half) dismissed. I personally never made it past the second stage where I was let go, but I hear most trials don't last more than a couple of days. Oh and I hear during juror questioning the lawyers can again dismiss you for whatever reason.
