2. We should point this out without minimizing the importance of protecting our pets.

Yes, it's trivial compared to guns. But, a functioning government can do all these things, big and small.

I'd like to see us point out how easy it is to do the right thing when you aren't fighting a powerful lobby which exists to protect corporate profits.

3. We can work on two issues simultaneously. Man's Best Friend is important.

So are children dying. So is the environment. So is the economy and taxes. So is healthcare (people die from the lack of it).

But the Repubs are focusing on this because protecting dogs is a popular issue, I'm sure. Still, it is a good thing, whatever the reason.
