The Republican incumbent, Bruce Rauner, is running against the Democratic Speaker of the House, Michael Madigan. Madigan is, in fact, not running for governor; the Democratic candidate is J B Pritzker.

Rauner does have one problem, he can't run on his record, because he hasn't got one. There is absolutely nothing he can point to as an accomplishment.
