They wanted him to practice answering questions, but his sycophants couldn't get him to focus long enough to actually answer any questions and they didn't dare interrupt him when he started rambling incoherently about completely unrelated subjects. All they could squeeze in were two tries to get him to answer before they just gave up in frustration.
Then they complimented him on what a great job he did, and what a great President he is, and how handsome he is, after which they trudged back to their offices and called their own lawyers to ask how they could try to keep from going to prison.
