The woman is reprehensible and, had she any sense of shame, would feel enormously ashamed of her actions. That said, the woman accosting her in the video needs to understand that she'd already won the battle. Her relentless in-your-face demand for whatever her card was and however she handed it to the woman who then refused to return it was just, well, unnecessarily escalating -- I know she was ticked off at sunglasses-lady, but why confuse an obviously racist situation in which you were being victimized by being overtly threatening and casting a shadow on yourself?

Don't know how the cops resolved the issue. But by the time they arrived -- and they had much, much more important things to do that day, I'm sure -- they had to sort out "who did what to whom and when" because it had to look to them like the big crybaby was, quite possibly the victim in this situation.

At around 11:20 AM a white woman approached a black man named Deacon for having a BBQ grill at Lake Merritt today. She told him he could not BBQ there and called the police. She would not leave Deacon alone. A young black woman was walking by overheard how the white woman was harassing him telling him he can not be there, she stopped and asked the woman to leave her alone. The white woman became aggressive with the woman. She started filming the woman's aggressive behavior and has told us it's up on Facebook (probably a live stream).

After the lady ran away to a Quik Stop on Brooklyn and Newton, the police arrived and talked to her. The officer told Dione that she did not do anything wrong following her as long as she did not touch her. Dione informed the police that the woman should have called the Park services and not the police. The police agreed. As Smith noticed that she appeared to be mentally unstable, the police said that she wanted to evaluate her mental health too.

All this was taking place within 30 minutes, and despite the police showing up, the lady returned later at 4:15 pm according to Smith. The White woman harassed them again and said they weren’t supposed to be there, they were supposed to move. Smith told her that the Oakland police officer said to them that they did not have to move, and that the charcoal code was not enforced.

First, waiting for 2 hours for police to break up a family bbq in a public park is a bit much. It's reasonable to consider racism in this thing, but in the end, the woman's assertion appears to be correct. Is she as aggressive though, for jaywalking, etc?

What was interesting to me is how people behave when they've stepped out of their comfort level and found themselves challenged.

The video of the guy tearing up (well, trying to) a sign a few days ago - he had no idea what to do. He actually lifted the lid off a garbage can at his antagonist's urging, only to put it back because he was completely void at that moment of how to behave.

The sunglass woman in this OP's video - same thing, except she was a lot weirder. What would have happened if she'd given the videotaper's card back at any point in the video?

Seems like pretty much a b***h, but if the rules of the park says no charcoal, they shouldn't be using charcoal to grill there, that's straight-forward. It's not real difficult to understand why using a charcoal grill on top of GRASS ... is maybe not the best idea. Granted it's green and therefore unlikely to catch fire, but it can still get burnt and damaged.

Now ... *I'd* never call the cops on someone for it, no matter what color, race, etc. But some people are just busy-bodies ... doesn't necessarily mean this woman must be 'racist' simply because she's white, and the scofflaw renegade Quers ... are not.

I don't subscribe to the 'anytime a white calls the police on a non-white, it must be because they are racists' ... if the non-white is actually breaking the law, I require addt'l evidence before asserting 'racism'. But that's just me.
