(205,179 posts)The thing is, Bill gave him ever chance, but he refused to take it. And that is a pretty scathing article! Yikes! He's facing the same kind of scrutiny as most of Trump's associates - seems like they're all into some kind of trouble. Have we ever seen times like this?? Not in my lifetime. And Bill did him the favor of not throwing him under the bus on this, either! Thanks for passing this on!

(63,221 posts)coals but he held back. I'm not sure why because this guy was one of the dumbest, least respectful guests he has had on the show in a long time. I just wanted to smack him. Anyway, thanks again for posting the show! I love watching it!

(205,179 posts)As I keep saying, we desperately need humor these days - and Bill Maher usually does a good job. I was hoping that he'd given up the RW guests, though, it's obvious they aren't popular with his audience. Geraldo a couple of weeks ago was bad enough...

(2,574 posts)So the pretty much non stop laughs in the New Rules welcome relief.

(205,179 posts)And I loved New Rules, too - especially when he did the Marlon Brando voice! He really is a talented comedian, we need to see more of that, especially now!

(2,574 posts)You can't imagine how entrenched Duncan,Jr is here He inherited the office from his Father, Duncan Hunter Sr who had it like forever. For a couple of cycles I swear his very Red District (kind of like Bakersfield) thought they were still voting for the Dad.
Even tho Hunter,Jr sleazy activities have come to light, he has such a strong grip on that District... Well, that used to be said of Issa, the other longtime Repug Congressperson of SD County's 5 Reps (the other 3 Democrats) Doug Applegate finally frightened Issa into retirement, so there's hope even to rid Congress of obnoxious UberCreep Hunter.
OMG the MB voice! Even Maher, you could tell, knew he'd exceeded himself It was just fabulous.

(7,951 posts)Bill can be way too simplistic too often, but he is valuable. I wish Dr. Reich had been given more time.

(2,574 posts)Lesson #1 " Kill them with Bullshit" @ Koch School of Public Appearance. So the smartest, informed guests like Reich get drown out by the RW fact free fillibustering, cheating the audience of their time. I think that's why we all have love Maxine' "reclaiming my time" stand in Congress. She refuses to give Repug lies even a second of her rightful time.

(205,179 posts)His interview was only with Bill Maher. But I completely agree, Maher wasn't at all tough on him, gave him chance after chance to redeem himself, but he just stubbornly kept digging himself in deeper. And I'm not that familiar with him, I'm in New York, so I wasn't aware of his background - or that he was already in serious trouble. And not bringing that up was a big omission on Bill's part, but he bent over backwards to keep things "friendly." If he'd been on the panel with the others, things could have turned out much differently.

(2,574 posts)I forget with all the Show segmenting that these RW zealots often get their own insulated spot So it was just that little window on Overtime where Maher should have let Reich deflate Hunter's Smear Bubble. BTW I've never read of even one proven case of deliberate voter fraud in San Diego County by Hunter's scheming "illegals" Aren't the handful of cases that pop up nationwide predominately Republicans?
Rhiannon12866
(205,179 posts)Followed by a discussion with his panel of the week. This week that was only Robert Reich and Michael Render, then he brought in Ethan Hawke and it was four of them. The only time Duncan Hunter discussed anything with anyone other than Bill Maher was the Overtime segment - which takes place after the show and is only available online.
Previously he has had RWers on his panel, Rick Santorum, S.E. Cupp and Amy Holmes come to mind, but lately he's just had them for his opening interview. Last month he had Geraldo Rivera and that didn't go any better than the Duncan Hunter interview did, Bill couldn't get him to back down off of the Trump "talking points."
And I don't have the statistics, but it's been reported that, nationwide, there have only been a handful of cases of attempted voter fraud, but it remains one of the right's - and Trump's - favorite talking points. And you know that old saying about repeating a lie - the Trump supporters continue to believe it.

(2,574 posts)That Scottish(?) RW guest pulled the "we need bipartisan respect" out of his ass & took off... They all deliberately hog & lie churn valuable Overtime moments with their RW Drivel. And,as you say, it's the only segment where all 5 guests plus Bill might be together. Also probably, because of wider access, has the biggest audience.
Instead of being polite, Maher needs to do what Joy Reid does on her show When the lies start and before the Repug can go
into full outrage/victim/lpropaganda, time devouring orbit, Joy Reid just stops them by saying,"No, no, stop ...you know we do not allow fillibustering on this show". (She also always shuts down their using Democrat as a noun with "no,gotta be grammatically correct on my show, and she forces them to say "Democratic" )
