Maher is always so sharp, satirical, and comical all at once.
These subjects are so dark that the laughter somehow feels unsettling...
The final clip is very sobering.

And he goes straight from a very dark subject into a bit meant to provoke laughter. We need to be able to still laugh to get us through the rough times. That's the reason I started posting political humor like this - and Bill Maher is an old hand at it.

Oh! And welcome to DU! We're glad to have you with us!

On Friday night, the Real Time panel tackled the newly-opened U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.

Bill Maher began the conversation that the embassy move “caused a riot” in the Gaza Strip, but New York Times columnist Bari Weiss refuted his assertion, saying that the riots “weren’t caused by the embassy move.”

“No, I said they were linked,” Maher clarified.

“But they’re not!” Weiss shot back. “When Hamas attacked Israel in 2008, when Hamas attacked Israel in 2012, and when they had attacked Israel in 2014, the embassy was in Tel Aviv all of those times, okay?”

Weiss elaborated that these protests were taking place for six weeks and that they “intentionally” moved up the date to coincide with the embassy opening so that everyone would be “disgusted and heartbroken” when seeing the side-by-side of Ivanka Trump “looking like she was at a country club” next to “poor, desperate people dying” in Gaza.

“So let’s not fall for a trap that is being set by a theocratic authoritarian group that is sending women and children to be human shields!” Weiss exclaimed.

It was a very good show this week - the initial interview wasn't a RWer and there was no shortage of breaking news. The only thing was there was no Overtime segment, Bill said he had to rush off to Las Vegas.

That's one reason I appreciate Bill Maher, he refuses to "normalize" what's been going on in this country since Trump.

Part of the same FBI mindset that treated BLM and OWS( or the antiwar movement in the 60's) as threatening to our democracy.. There is a big difference between nonviolent movements that are organized around challenging the status quo ( of income inequality or political inequality for example) and terrorist organization locally and worldwide. IMHO

I was disappointed there was no Overtime segment, Bill said he was off to Las Vegas, but I agree the show was a good one, no RWers this week.
