The Pythons are the ones making serious points about religion, etc., and the religious side is trying to be funny.

After the show, the bishop and Muggeridge revealed they had missed the first fifteen minutes of the film, which meant they didn’t see the crucial scene in which the three wise men visit the wrong stable - and the obvious difference between Brian and Jesus is explained.

My 11 year old son loves it, and quotes the Biggus Dickus lines verbatim ! The Holy Grail and the Meaning of Life next for him

But I've never been much of a Monty Python fan (though I've always liked John Cleese). Now I have a whole new respect for them.

Just watching some very British Anglican woop-te-do asking, "But what are you trying to SAY with this film?" strikes me as hilarious--the kind of thing one might see in a Monty Python movie.

Were the type of people that Monty Python mocked and performed caricatures of - the smug Bishop especially.

Thanks for posting.

I will say there one thing offensive about this whole show and that is the suit the host is wearing. Yikes! I didn't even realize till later that it was Tim Rice.

I don't think comedians are given enough credit. They are almost always more thoughtful and intellectual about their craft than a shallow viewing of their work would suggest.

Michael Palin, and think Life of Brian is both incredibly funny, and a brilliant discussion of the willingness of people to deceive themselves into believing the most ridiculous stuff. It strongly resonates now, when we have a president with ignorant supporters who would follow him no matter what he did and said. Meanwhile, the two conservative idiots on the other side in this debate have not got a single clue what the movie is about. I keep wanting John and Michael to point out that the movie is not about Jesus christ, it is about a man named Brian who is mistaken for a religious messiah by a mob of idiots. They keep assuming the movie is actually about the Life of Jesus. Frustrating and boring o have to listen to their nonsense, and their rude insults of John and Michael!
