in asking "why?" Born in 1937 and raised in parochial school it took me 30 years to first reject Catholicism as the one true religion. It was another 30 years to discover Humanism. Thank "god" for DU and "amen" to Richard Dawkins. Excuse the heretical last sentence.

believe they are doing it for Allah. It's a geopolitical battle. The religion is used to motivate people. Every society has a religion. It is natural to question them as science explains things.

Every war has some kind of resource distribution or control behind it. Things other than religion can also be used to motivate people - tribal and national, etc.
