(204,770 posts)He always does. And there were some pretty high profile guests tonight, Michael Moore and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (who he just announced last night). Listening to Jon, I couldn't help wondering if he regretted giving up his show and his platform when he did - he still has a lot to say, especially now!

(1,846 posts)Stewart's gift is explaining what is going on so the rest of us can easily understand it, all the while laughing.
I miss him.

(204,770 posts)I was in the studio audience. He not only had a great show, but he's also just a really nice guy. He talked and joked with the audience there before the show and one woman asked him about the notes he used - and he remembered that and made a point of giving them to her after the show!

(204,770 posts)But fortunately he's BFF with Stephen Colbert, so he has made regular appearances - and has to be his most popular guest! I had to laugh when they took turns under the desk! It's obvious they still have great fun together - and share the same message.

Thanks for posting. I even stayed up to watch but atmospheric conditions had other plans.

(204,770 posts)These days, when things just seem to be getting worse by the day, I consider Stephen Colbert - and guests like Jon Stewart and Michael Moore - must see TV to keep me from panicking! He gave a brilliant speech!

(204,770 posts)These help keep me from going off the deep end, too! And it's the entire Colbert monologue - and it was cool that Jon Stewart joined him last night. I usually don't post the guests unless they're political ones - since V&M is a political forum - but we lucked out last night with both Michael Moore and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez!

(204,770 posts)So far, I've seen clips of it several times on the news, including on Brian Williams' 11th Hour last night. It needs to be played and replayed everywhere!

(204,770 posts)Right now it's Nicolle Wallace and she just showed Jon Stewart too - and that's what they're discussing!

(296,848 posts)It was so brilliant the way Jon did it.. like what?!! All Truths! Hail for Truths coming from our Jon Stewart!
I like his hair and he has a 'stash now

(204,770 posts)I've often seen clips from the late night shows on the MSNBC broadcasts, whatever show that was on earlier had a clip of Seth Meyers' monologue and this is at least the third time I've seen at least part of Jon Stewart's epic speech!
He does have a more casual look now, LOL, but that's just fine - he often emerges from under Colbert's desk, these days!
Cha
(296,848 posts)Good on Jon! He's emerged from Colbert's desk before?
Rhiannon12866
(204,770 posts)And I'm guessing that Jon has an open invitation to appear whenever he wants to - and it's not unusual to see him pop up, often from under the desk, LOL. The last time I saw him there was when he had the winner of some Late Show contest under his desk for the duration of the show - and the surprise was that Jon Stewart was there, too!
And Nicolle Wallace was followed by a repeat of Hardball. I didn't catch either show yesterday, but Tweety had a clip from Jon Stewart's speech, too!
Cha
(296,848 posts)Do you remember which clips they found interesting enough to air?
Rhiannon12866
(204,770 posts)I don't know if they aired the entire speech for the "panels" they had on both shows, but it seems likely since what Jon had to say was the topic of their panel discussions!

(296,848 posts)us trying to do our parts to Fight the Fascists.. and we especially like it when someone like Jon Stewart comes on national tv and does it so Brilliantly and it has LEGS!

(204,770 posts)Did I ever tell you that I once saw Jon Stewart in person? Back in 2008, I was in the studio audience of The Daily Show! It was pretty cool be in the actual studio, it wasn't a big place and it was very high tech, I remember clocks with the times from different world cities on the walls. And he was very friendly, talked and joked with the audience before the show. And of course he had his notes - and one lady asked about them. And he remembered, made it a point to give them to her after the show.

(296,848 posts)Good ol New Yorkers!
Rhiannon12866
(204,770 posts)And he was equally friendly, made it a point to engage with the audience even after 30+ years! But the main difference I noticed was with Letterman, we just waited in line and then went in. But with Jon Stewart's Daily Show, there were metal detectors, you had to take off your belt(!) in front of security and they needed to check out my purse - but the guy who checked me in was pretty friendly - guess I didn't look dangerous - and he gave up on my purse!

And the last show that was on MSNBC before they went to those awful Dateline murder stories that they show on weekends was The Beat with Ari Melber - and they showed Jon Stewart's speech, too! They showed quite a bit of it, the beginning with Stephen Colbert whispering in his ear - and then the end when he really got going! His speech is really making the news!
