(36,827 posts)Home Again is probably the biggest outfit that does them, but there are other microchip brands and registry services. Most of the registry services, including Home Again, have a lifetime registration which means you register your microchip once and you never have to re-register it. You want to stay away from services that require you to keep re-registering your pet. Home Again is a bit deceptive in that they will send you reminders once per year to sign up for "enhanced recovery" services which make it sound as if you have to keep paying them to keep your pet registered, but you don't.

They thought the coyotes had gotten him so they were really happy to have him back.

I thought of this when I had my pet micro-chipped long ago.
It's just so hard to make these parental decisions.

(135,425 posts)Your first link--the opinion of a "radio host" -- is from WORLD NET DAILY, a discredited, bullshit website that is not valid here at DU. You would be well advised to avoid using it again if you want to be perceived as credible. The article has at the bottom a shill for a nutcase book about Spychips. Please.
THAT WAPO story is about RFID chips with transponders in them implanted in HUMANS--not passive chips that require a scanning device to even know they are tehre. That has NOTHING to do with the reader chips that are put in pets. The human chips monitor conditions and send out signals--the pet chips just sit there waiting for an EXTERNAL reader to reveal their information.
