President Trump has fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions and replaced him with Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, an outspoken critic of the Mueller probe, who will now oversee it. (349 posts)After the White House's public accusation of assault against Acosta, despite video evidence to the contrary, and its revocation of his press pass, anything is possible. Whitaker already told us how he could starve the Mueller investigation by cutting its budget. Add to that the likelihood that the entire executive branch will refuse to honor Congressional subpoenas, and where does that leave us? With a Supreme Court that will uphold those refusals, and one lonely house of Congress doing its best but just spinning its wheels?
Maybe I need more coffee, but despite the happy election news, I don't like what I see.

(22,663 posts)Trump just took actions that are further evidence of obstruction of justice, and he did so illegitimately. On the other hand, with Kavanaugh giving him a loyal Supreme court majority, he has also strengthened his position for the time that this constitutional crisis comes to a head. There are a lot of variables and it is a complex equation. My money is on Mueller's investigation.
