SNL says goodbye to Kate McKinnon's impression of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions with a montage of his appearances on the show.

(112,121 posts)I'm almost certain that Mueller has some questions for him, so I think that this farewell is premature. It's almost like a soap opera where they bring the dead back to life with a magical elixir or injection (see Days of Our Lives).

(205,202 posts)And this was a short retrospective that wasn't part of the show so I thought it was worth posting since I know that this character was a favorite here. Kate McKinnon really can impersonate anyone! AS for Days of Our Lives, I watched that back in the day when I was in school and when I worked nights, LOL. Coincidentally, I just thought of this the other day - they sometimes had one actor playing two characters, one "good" and one "bad," but on that show the "evil twin" was actually played by the real-life twin of a long time character.

(112,121 posts)Within the past month they had two sets of doppelgangers on the show.
Deidre Hall played Dr. Marlena Evans and a character named Hattie. Judy Evans played Adrienne Kiriakis and a character named Bonnie Lockhart.
Hattie and Bonnie are from the "wrong side of the tracks" and looking for an easy ride. The two met at the Statesville prison and were sprung for various schemes with the other characters. They weren't completely evil, but mostly unethical, filled with excuses and somewhat comical. Bonnie was also married to Mickey Horton for a few years when Maggie was off the show so she has a longstanding vendetta against "Red" since her appearance resulted in the dissolution of her marriage with Mickey.
They also had one actress, play the roles of Kristen Dimera and Susan Banks recently. The former is the wealthy criminal who was dressed fairly normal. Meanwhile, the latter is the wacko character that gets involved in schemes but usually has good intentions. She wears a fake wig, ugly dentures, and cheap handsewn dresses. However, Susan pretended to be Kristen about 20 years ago in the show history appearing much more elegant.

(205,202 posts)Dr. Marlena Evans has been on since I was in high school, I think, LOL. And back when she had an "evil twin" (Samantha), that character was played by her real life twin sister! And those names are a blast from the past! I lost track of all the marriages, but I do remember the Hortons, of course. I remember Mickey and Bill (who both married the same woman!) and they kept coming up with other siblings we had never heard of before, like Marie the nun!

(112,121 posts)He started out dating a white girl that was killed by the "Necktie Killer", then he moved on to the Latina girl while both were on the rebound, then he was getting serious with the black daughter of Mayor Abe Carver. JJ thought that he got her pregnant, but it turned out the father was his half black cousin (Julie's grandson) so that relationship ended and the pregnancy ended with a miscarriage. They are going to set JJ with an Asian woman next.
So from white to Latina, to black, to Asian. If this relationship doesn't work out for JJ, then the only logical course of action for him will be to get with the group of gay guys on the show (except for his other cousin).

(205,202 posts)Think it was back when I was in HS and the character's name was David, pretty sure he was a Horton relative. That was obviously a long time ago... And I also remember Doug and Julie, though his marriage to Julie's mother was before my time. I always thought that having the same person (Hope) as a sister/step daughter was kinda creepy.

(112,121 posts)The son (Eli) is a detective along with Abe's daughter. For awhile JJ was also a detective until he accidentally shot the mayor's son.
They also had a string of changed DNA results and custody battles on the show lately.
There are a lot of brief appearances by old cast members, but they never stay on the show long enough for the viewers to feel involved. The writers are out of ideas and rely upon changing the characters frequently to keep it interesting.

(205,202 posts)And how do all these people (even the senior Hortons - Tom and Alice - back in the day!) keep discovering progeny that no one ever knew about?? I also followed One Life to Live starting in junior high and the main character (Viki) managed to have a daughter that even she knew nothing about - because she was born to her alter ego (Niki) so she didn't remember!

Thanks for posting Rhiannon!

(205,202 posts)And TexasTowelie above suggested that we may be seeing more of Sessions when we finally hear from Mueller - which I sure hope will be soon!

She has to be one of the most talented, funniest people around.
