I remember the exact moment I heard John Lennon had been shot. It was a Monday night, I was a sophomore in high school. I came home from a friend's house, after basketball practice and my sister was crying. I asked why... then we were both crying.

Peace, John.

I was sitting in a car, after work, with a girl I was sweet on.

The news came over the radio.

Worst birthday ever.

I don't remember Kennedy getting shot obviously but I will never forget John's death. I was/am a big Beatles fan and it hit me really hard. I wore black for a month, even for Christmas. I wore white for his memorial...he would have wanted it that way.

Monday Night Football, Dolphins/Patriots and Howard Cosell announcing this tragedy as news of it first became known.

And Reagan was President-elect. The year 1980 really ended on a bad note.

John assassinated and Ronnie taking office. Fuck, fuck, and double fuck.

--- listening to the news all the way home, on the 1 1/2 hour drive to northern N.J.

That was one shitty ride.

Went to the memorial service in Central Park a few days later. Yoko appeared a couple of times, in the window of The Dakota. She was wearing white, people said it was the color of morning in Japan. She would stand in the window for a couple of minutes and then walk away. No recognition of the crowd in the street below. Just her standing there.
