Do we Have to Choose Between Capitalism or Democracy? (w/Congressman Mark Pocan)

Do we Have to Choose Between Capitalism or Democracy? (w/Congressman Mark Pocan)

Does the freedom we as Americans experience come from capitalism or from Democracy? Does capitalism understand that all men are created equal? Thom Hartmann caller asks this to Congressman Mark Pocan. What do you think, does the freedom we as Americans experience result from our free markets or from our democratic traditions and are these forces in conflict?

Democracy is about ordinary people having a say in policies that affect them. Capitalism is about shareholder earnings at the expense of the worker, the consumer and the environment.

When one class of people, the shareholders, are held above all other classes, then we do not have democracy.
