(4,164 posts)My son and his wife don't want children. I would never pressure them, especially with all the environmental problems.

(2,690 posts)He's learning to talk, likes to dance when he holds himself upright on the low windowsill in my living room, and smiles and laughs enough to make angels almost jealous of his good nature. And he's here, growing to maturity on a planet being choked to death by the greed and sociopathic insensitivity of the undeserving, thieving corporate rich and their paid lackeys in government.
I feel helpless to save the planet for him.
Aside from donations to causes and, of course, my vote, all I have is my loathing for the greedy corporate fascists who control the senate, half the house of representatives, the white house and the no longer "supreme" court. Elitists all, they view the destruction of the planet as something that will affect only we "peripherals" -- that is, us and our children and grand children.
My curse on them, then -- as a septuagenerian, I feel it's within my rights to offer one -- is that for every ounce of suffering you, from your yachts and palaces release on my grandchildren and the grandchildren of all and any "peripheral", triple that suffering be visited on you and your offspring until the last generation; further, that you die in misery but live long enough to see your own offspring suffer the fate you so coldly and cavalierly bequeathed to the rest of us.

(26,284 posts)As for our species surviving its going to depend a number of factors such as the extent of the changes as if its as severe as the one that hit 200+ million years ago it could wipe us out regardless of our intelligence and ability to adapt.

(397 posts)If you want to describe it such an anthropomorphic manner, it is merely reacting to the irritant of current human behaviour.
It will cough, sneeze and run a fever until it has killed us off and then continue quite happily without us.

(28,120 posts)I think most species will be wiped out, never to return.
May take 500K yrs for the planet to become green with vegetation again.

(28,120 posts)For a over decade now as a hint. He's gotten it and is totally convinced that having children now is tantamount to murder/sentencing them to horrible suffering and death.
The info has been out there a long time. We as a species are coming to the end of our own rope. Our own self-made destruction.
It is a nightmare and all the prayers and denial will not save us.
