2. As I recall, there was no Klansman. There isn't one in the video.

5. Northam wasn't dressed as a klansman and had nothing to do with him.

I guess we can assume they were at the same get together. But we don't know for sure. Whoever the Klansman in that photo is, he ain't talkin', that's for sure.

In that pic, Northam looks like he could be dressed up like Michael Jackson, like he said he did for a dance contest. So maybe that was after the contest. Who knows.

dressed as a klansman, you'd snap pictures with him? While dressed as "Michael Jackson"?

You seem to want to make it about people dressed as klansmen, though.

Why?

13. And Mark Herring was 19 in 1980, when he dressed up as Kurtis Blow

at a Kurtis Blow tribute party in college, was a different matter than simply "blackface."

I probably laughed hysterically at this in 1984. I was 19 and didn't have the 35 years of experiences I have now. I think Mr Crystal would say the same.

However, there's Sir Ringo. Long live Sir Ringo.

He's gone underground to experience white America. He was so funny.

8. Don't see or hear anyone getting all upset about whiteface.

Why? Because it is all about entertainment and humor and it has nothing to do with racism. The same is true in reverse with blackface; it is all about entertainment and humor and in this mode has nothing to do with racism.

9. I must confess that I give entertainers, esp. comedians, a wide berth...

when it comes to controversial things.

Billy Crystal did a number of impersonations. He wasn't just a verbal impersonator. He did routines AS those celebrities. Sammy Davis Jr. was at one time considered the best entertainer in the world. Crystal could do an amazing routine as Davis, so of course he would dress as Davis, complete with the very different skin tone. I guess he wouldn't do that skit, now. But at the time, it was funny.

When entertainers cross the line with jokes or statements, like so many have done, I do give them more leeway. They talk a lot in their craft, and have to be fast thinkers, and are quick with comebacks. They push the edge. So of course they'll go over that edge sometimes. It's inevitable.

If you look at the Eddie Murphy video, parts of it are in fact making fun of white people. As he does research on being white before he dons his disguise, part of his research involves watching hours of Dynasty, and reading Hallmark cards. LOL. I mean, that's making fun of white people, but it's still funny. (I DO get all emotional from Hallmark cards!)
