Scheduled for Feb 13, 2019
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) will announce legislation Wednesday to expand Social Security benefits and strengthen the retirement program for generations to come.

But I'd rather people discuss preserving or expanding it, than cutting it, or privatizing it.

to pay for expanded Social Security are going to be needed to keep it actuarially sound for paying the current benefits. And probably a few more things, too. Time is running short to avoid a disastrous cut in benefits starting in 2034, and sooner if we do hit another recession.

You millennials out there who resent us Baby Boomers, just remember we ponied up extra money in the 1983 law to keep it going. Without the reforms made then, that cost us real money in the years we were trying to start our families, the thing would have gone bust by 1990. And you would have only read about Social Security in your history books.
