Related: About this forumBen Shapiro calls british conservative journalist a leftist and rage-quits interview.
When the british journalist calls it barbaric to jail a woman for having a miscarriage, Shapiro calls him a leftist and repeatedly attacks him for describing opposition to abortion as barbaric.
- "What do you say to the accusation the the Republican Party is no longer the party of ideas?"
- "Oh, they have ideas. They discuss ideas all the time. Democrats don't have new ideas. They have old ideas. It's ridiculous to say that Republicans have no ideas." - Fails to give any examples for republican ideas.
At the end, the journalist repeatedly points to the disconnect between Shapiro's lamentations about a lack of civil discourse and his habit of insulting other people. That's when his rapid-fire talk suddenly slows down. Then his speech speeds up again and he rage-quits.

Brillo (Andrew Neil's nickname) is well known in Britain for his media work including heading the main right-of-centre political magazine "The Spectator" and his work with Rupert Murdoch in setting up the Sky TV empire as well as being the former editor of the Sunday Times. And he's an unapologetic Thatcherite. Yet despite all this he has worked for many years now on the supposedly left-wing Commie Marxist Socialist BBC as a political journalist, notably for the programme "This Week" which is coming to an end this Summer as Neil wants to step down from presenting it.
Now there has been some issues with "This Week" supposedly being quite a surreal experience for the shows guests including lines of questioning especially towards those whom are left leaning (in the British context), but otherwise Brillo does have a reputation of giving both barrels to all sides of the political spectrum and having the balls to do so, a characteristic sadly declining in British media circles where more effort is now going into clickbait and "good telly" involving guests and panellists roaring at each other.
Brillo in that clip was just giving Shaprio the usual line of questioning he's give any other guest. The problem for the likes of Shaprio is that Brillo rarely suffers fools gladly. Loved the bit about Shaprio saying that "nobody knows you" in a retort to Neil, whereas pretty much no one outside of the alt-right and fellow associates in the UK knows who Ben Shaprio is!
I haven't witnessed any of his work much, but I was told that Shaprio was an upcoming bright light among the conservative base in the USA with a different trajectory than normal in claiming to use 'logic' to defeat opposing arguments as opposed to many of those before him. But all that clip has shown is that Shaprio is another mouth-breathing American Conservative talking head that once taken out of their well rehearsed bubble starts pathetically flailing around the place with no answer except to start going ad hominem on the interviewer. That might work to the base that Shaprio regularly speaks to, but to most on this side of the Atlantic it means that you're drowning on dry land if not shown up as being full of sh*t.
For the record, Brillo was the same journalist a few years back who tried his best to interview Alex Jones, who was in England at the time coinciding with a meeting of the Bilderberg Group. Brillo had to give up trying to talk any sense with Jones, with a deadpan look into the camera and speaking "we've got an idiot in the studio today!"

(4,066 posts)Mr. Neil was a far better interviewer that most of the US media. Shapiro must have thought he'd get the FOX treatment and then got called out for his statements and opinions.
Poor snowflake doesn't want to stand behind what he's said.

(89 posts)Idiot calls a Spectator journalist "left wing"! Awesome. Shapiro doesn't have a clue and can't take the heat of a real interview. This reminds me of BBC's "Hard Talk" where they challenge the guest no matter what. It shows how British media is still relatively authentic compared to America's, by and large. I subscribe to UK's Economist magazine, and yes it's "conservative" but in the UK that doesn't mean "insane" the way it does in the USA.
Classic:
Benny Boy: "Just admit you're on the left."
Andrew Neil of the conservative Spectator magazine: "If only you knew how ridiculous that statement is, you wouldn't have said it."
I've loathed Shapiro for quite some time and so this vid is a real treat. Thx for posting.

(89 posts)The interviewer calls putting women in prison for abortion at 6 weeks "brutal," and Benny Boy later accuses the interviewer of calling the entire pro-life movement "brutal." Typical dishonest rhetoric that Shapiro engages in all the time to "win" debates. But the BBC interviewer wouldn't let him get away with it and poor little Shapiro got triggered.
But what I think what really melted down Benny was the interviewer calmly moving on to each next point. Shapiro is used to indulgent reinforcement, and when the interviewer said nothing or pressed a point, it was like Shapiro's ego couldn't handle it. By the end Shapiro really did seem like a child getting his lollipop taken away.
