(16,296 posts)what politician, being lobbied and financed by coal and oil, would even THINK of negative prices. Come on, let's be realistic about the whole thing.

(3,557 posts)With the proliferation of renewables, oil is quickly becoming obsolete. In order to stay ahead of the impending irrelevance of the entire petroleum industry, they have to keep alternative energy sources at bay as long as they can.
Additionally, the regimes of the nations that rely on exporting petroleum will suddenly lose their relevance. Without access to American aid and munitions, how will these guys stay in power? Immagine what that would do to a nation like Saudi Arabia.
Once a solar panel is put on a roof, it creates energy forever. Big oil will prevent that for as long as it can.

(33,515 posts)...with so called "renewable energy" is a function of its non-dispatchable nature.
This state of affairs has tremendous implications for overall electricity pricing which is precisely the reason that the highest electricity prices in Europe are in Germany and Denmark.
There are publications all over the primary scientific literature making this point.
When we view the dire issue of climate change in a cartoonish fashion, we are doing so with contempt for all future generations.
At the risk of being accused of advancing a "right wing talking point" I note that a recent publication in PNAS, authored by an array of climate and engineering academics from major academic institutions makes the point that so called "renewable energy" cannot replace dangerous fossil fuels.
Therefore, our responsibility to future generations requires that we rethink our blithe assumptions.
It is a scientific fact with irrefutable data that trillions of dollars invested in so called renewable energy has not and is not addressing climate change. After a very serious decade look into the engineering issues, I assert it will not do so ever.
Climate change is no laughing matter.
We very much need to get serious and no one is really getting it, with the exception - I hate to say this because I really have little use for the guy - Michael Moore, who to my surprise seems to have suddenly understood what the "renewable" chimera really is.
