Big difference in that you're not straining to understand the lyrics here, plus it's more evocative OnDoutside Nov 2019 #5

Whoever told you that must have been talking about a different song William Seger Nov 2019 #7

think is a Dylan song. I think we should put Dylan aside and judge this one on the merits. IOW, if we always use the Dylan standard for songs such as these, more than likely we'll be disappointed.

I don't know music but I think I can look for what I think is meritorious. His accompaniment is terrific and I particularly love the flute.

Did he write the music and/or the lyrics?

Otherwise you are absolutely right.

"Simon told a story about being at Joan Baez’s home and waiting for her to get off the phone to rehearse. Simon pulled a book off her shelf of Magritte’s artwork and found a picture with the song title."

of The Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" in its melancholy and descriptive detail, I would have thought.

The only time something Simon wrote made me think of Dylan was where he humorously references Dylan in "A Simple Desultory Philippic":

I knew a man, his brain so small
He couldn't think of nothing at all
Not the same as you and me
He doesn't dig poetry
He's so unhip that when you say Dylan
He thinks you're talking about Dylan Thomas
Whoever he was, the man ain't got no culture,
But it's all right ma
Everybody must get stoned.

This is based on the version from 2018’s “In the Blue Light.” I go back and forth between it and the original version from “Hearts and Bones” but really, I love them both about the same.

For a guy who started recording way back in 1957, Paul still sounds fantastic. May he live forever.

In an era struggling with ginned-up hatred for immigrants, this song captures the simplicity and power of why millions have been drawn to America- escaping many forms of oppression and repression.
