So, The GOP paid people to clog the phone lines of three dozen congressional Democrats with people opposed to the impeachment proceedings? Shocking? Shockingly banal, more like it.
Astroturfing: (verb) Professional politicians using campaign money to carefully stage craft a protest, and make it look like a spontaneous, 'grass roots' protest. Hence the term, astroturf (fake grass)
This is the third time these bastards have pulled this shit, and it's getting tiresome.
In 2000 they astroturfed a 'spontaneous' protest of Miami citizens trying to stop the Florida recount, and hand the Presidency to George Bush jr. Only problem is that NONE of the protesters were from Miami. They were all professional Republican campaign staffers who'd been FLOWN IN by Jim Baker to make it LOOK like a spontaneous protest.
In 2009 they did the same time, using Fox News to organize 'spontaneous' TEA PARTY protests against Barack Obama, and the Democratic Party controlling Congress. NOT SPONTANEOUS. ASTROTURFED.
Now, in 2019, they're organizing an astroturfed telephone campaign, diverting thousands of phone calls from people opposed to the impeachment hearings to two dozen vulnerable Democrats, making it LOOK like there's an overwhelming (albeit fake) groundswell of public opposition from their constituents.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us. FOOL ME THREE TIMES, and we need to storm the goddamned Bastille!
