Rachel Maddow Long Excerpt from "Warning"

Here Rachel reads a longish excerpt (10 minutes or so).

After the ad, skip up to about 1:40 or so.

Section of book "He's About to Do Something"

Includes detail on the "best practices" the "steady state" came up with to brief DT and responding to the "five alarm fires" Trump's impulsive "we've gotta do this <insane thing>" prompted.

7. Yep. As well as Neurodevelopmental Disorders

or in current parlance, Specific Learning Disorder

https://psychcentral.com/disorders/specific-learning-disorder/

Not "mental illness" per se, but his personality disorders made it impossible for him to admit, or get assistance with his obvious problems with written language and processing. And then there are the attention problems....

His issues really run the gamut.

10. A long time ago, they used to have a catch-all diagnosis of "Mixed Personality Disorder"

which meant a person had a combination of at least 2 disorders. It isn't
in use anymore, but it applies to Sphincter Face for sure.

He displays traits of all these disorders:
Borderline -- manipulative, loves and creates chaos, hates to be challenged, volatile relationships
Narcissistic -- treats people like objects, indulges his own ego, extreme grandiosity
Antisocial -- rules don't apply to him, has no conscience or ethics
Sociopathic -- criminality, lacks empathy, "getting caught" is seen as the problem -- not the crime
Paranoid -- everyone IS out to get him. Conspiracy theories galore.
Psychopathic (?) does he have the pathology of a serial killer? Maybe. He didn't care about the Kurds

He misses on Histrionic, Schizotypal, Dependent, and Avoidant.

He is a horror show and should never have been put in office. We are lucky he hasn't caused more
damage than he has. He promised to vandalize the government, and he succeeded. The MAGAs who
voted for him and who still support him are like people who burn down their own neighborhood during
a riot. He was the match they were seeking.

This is the legacy that will be the most difficult to recover from.

While we focus on the specific horrors of his executive orders, etc., the generalized "behind the scenes" dismantling of our executive agencies has gone forward with lightening speed.

Laws matter little when the agencies tasked with implementing and enforcing have been gutted and populated with crony capitalists that have more interest in undermining the rule of law than enforcing it.

8. How about we add to that how he has gotten so many devoted followers.

How in the name of all that is holy has he managed to bamboozle so many people who won’t abandon him even if he does shoot someone on 5th Ave. just for kicks? Why can’t they come to understand that they were had — even if they never admit that they fell for his game?? We really need to understand how this happened because all the rest of us are paying a steep price for the folly of a few.
So study him, but let’s not forget his base. They are part of the problem, too.

... alienation of the people from their government.

Rather than the reality -- that WE are the government; that we designed a system that allows us to shape our own fate as a nation -- there has been a systematic, and incredibly effective campaign to demonize "the government" as some separate, evil thing that must be destroyed.

And as this has moved forward, there has been a "professionalization" of political engagement (I'm just a lowly citizen -- "political stuff" is for the "experts" ).

Life for a vast majority of Americans sucks in many, many, ways. They are alienated from their own place in finding solutions through civic participation. They have been primed to flock to a "strongman" that tells them "I'll fix this, The evil government is ruining our lives and I'll get it off your backs."

Most Americans are so alienated from what is "happening in Washington" they don't pay any attention at all. They don't see how fucked up Trunp is because they have no inclination to take notice -- government is an alien force they aren't involved in. Government is someone else's business; it's evil. The bits of news that filter down from Fox tell them Trump is doing a great job and all the "bad talk" about him is lies.
