Massive Chemical Explosion In Texas, 60,000 People Evacuated

Port Neches area of Texas, first explosion yesterday, fires still burning.

(CNN) — Tens of thousands of residents had evacuated their homes by Thanksgiving day following a series of explosions at a Texas chemical plant, Jefferson County spokeswoman Allison Nathan Getz told CNN. A fire continued to burn Thursday as a smoke cloud covered the area surrounding the TPC Group plant.

The first explosion rocked the small city of Port Neches Wednesday morning, leaving at least three employees injured. More explosions followed throughout the day, including one that launched a tower into the air "like a missile," Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick said. The blasts shattered windows, destroyed roofs and left residents fearing for their safety after officials urged them to "shelter in place" early Wednesday...

vote for Dems. But many/most like me have absolutely NO power over our state or federal government. Please do not generalize.

I feel your pain. Our state has and is being criminally taken over by GOP. North Carolina is choking in coal ash and our waterways are being poisoned by those criminals. Just one of many, many death sentences forced on us. Texas has as much a real threat from fossil fuel billionaires and chemical plant disasters, as any in our nation. The Kochs alone want you all dead. Climate change and superstorms will hit very hard on your state. I see no change until after consistent disasters kill hundreds of thousands. The hate and racism is an opioid in both of our states and unfortunately that will ultimately kill all of us. Then take away any health care to fight the cancers they will give us all, right and left. Fox, Limpballs, Alex Jones and brain dead Jesus cult factions will end us all. Their sheep wil jump off the cliff while pushing us over that cliff to our deaths. All while praising GOD and his hand picked prophets. Like trump and Rick Perry. Damn, you guys have Perry, Cruze, Gohmert just to name a few. MAGA.

6. It is really bad here with Thanksgiving plans ruined due to another plant's greed.

That plant has a terrible record of cutting corners and violating safety and environmental laws.

I'm in SoCal and often see (conservative) people posting comments in various places about how they're leaving horrible California and moving to Texas. Because there are not so many regulations and rules there to inhibit their lives. I always think of things just like this and the previous explosion--land of few/lax/no regulations. No thanks, I'll stay here!

(I've been to Texas and there are some amazing things there, so no offense meant to the state as a whole, just to my fellow West coasters that think it's going to be all perfect when they get to the Lone Star state.)
