SR-71 Blackbird... first flight 22 Dec 1964...
I remember being a kid in Tucson and watching them fly overhead... almost unreal.
Crazy to think that it has been 55 years since the first one flew.

(2,962 posts)4. I've never seen one in flight
but I've seen them on the ground. They're a lot smaller than you would think given their performance.

If you ever get a chance to hear him speak, jump at it. He's had an absolutely amazing life and career.
After a bad crash he was told he'd never fly again, but he overcame a lot of major obstacles and became one of the most elite-of-the-elite pilots in the Air Force. Super friendly and has a wonderful sense of humor.

I may have heard it before but it keeps going around for darn good reason.
