Mortality rates are seen as a key indicator of how countries are dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. So why, compared to other countries in Europe, is the Covid-19 death toll so low?

1. Germans follow instructions

I lived there for 3 years while in the Army.

Once rules are established every German knows them. A guide book I saw for new arrivals said bluntly "Every German is a police officer" - they know the rules and standards and if you are pushing the limits they will let you know.

Germans eat at noon.
You will clean the sidewalk in front of your house or apartment on Sunday.
Etc.

2. Yes, other cultures do that well too

Unfortunately Americans still have too much of that 'wild west' attitude.

Yes. Not that this confirms my opinion but I said this from the beginning

our "rugged individualism" thing was going to be the big problem. Don't tell me what to do!
