(1,846 posts)1. 30,000 every day
I was going to https://www.worldometers.info a lot to check on the virus ... and noticed some of the other stats they keep track of there.
E.g. the number of people that die of starvation.
Every day.
About 30,000.
But ... since it's not a first-world problem, we don't really notice.

I've been broke before and learned how to make my groceries stretch and how to cook creatively with what I had available. Lots of folks have been there before. Lots of folks are there now. Since I'm fortunate enough now, I donate a few bucks to my local Capital Area Food Bank.
One of my neighbors works there so she likes to remind us how they can bulk purchase a massive amount of fresh produce, dairy, meat, and bread for very little money. It's like a dollar per pound. They buy surplus from wholesalers and farmers. When we hear about farmers dumping milk and crops rotting in the field, yet people are struggling to buy groceries, this is a great time to donate a few bucks to your local food bank.
