It’s the little tasks that keep order in my home and for my family that allow me to feel as calm as possible. Planning a menu for the week, keeping up on laundry, homeschooling with my teenager, mowing the lawn, weeding the garden, washing windows, going to bed in time...A million little things. They keep me busy and make me feel like I’m in control of of something.

a whole bunch of daily tasks to my life by starting the garden. I have a small crop of seedlings going for probably another week and a some seeds in the ground and perennials around the place that need watering until the sprinklers are running. It takes just a little time but it has consistency so I like it. And the resident cat follows me around and lays right next to me while I work the hose, has no fear unless I actually spray him. Amazing.

It's structure that is missing for everyone, something we also now need to redefine.

Always make your bed. For me it's coffee first, then anything else can be after that, I make the bed so I can put the clothes I'm going to wear on it to see if they are right for the day ahead.

I found that when I have big problems, they are usually made up of a bunch of smaller things. Being able to identify the smaller pieces is usually the challenge.

Always make your bed. I usually let the bed air out while I make coffee, feed the chickens, dogs, parrot, check the weather and decide what I’m making for dinner. An unmade bed makes me feel uneasy and disorganized. The men in my family think I’m a pain in the ass about the beds...but we have a small home and the bedrooms are visible from the living area.

12. Wash your sheets

I've gotten lazy at times. I had a friend protest to me that she can't make her bed because it makes her sneeze from allergies. Then it turned out she went several weeks between washing them. Wash your sheets every week and you'll solve multiple problems there.

I shower every day and shave every 2 days even though I've seen people boast about not doing so. A quarantine beard can break the seal on your mask if you wear one. Soap kills off any viruses you may have on your body. And it feels good to be clean.

I started cutting my own hair in a buzz cut 2 years ago since I'm balding. It's quick and easy to do at home.

Books can be shipped home. Pushups and situps can be done in a small space without any equipment. I studied for and achieved a certification last month, all online. Social distance walks are critical these days. Get that blood pumping and lower stress levels. There are free yoga videos online.

Clean and disinfect everything in your house, especially door handles, light switches, laptop, and cell phone.

Check up on people and see how they're doing. Some folks are cool as a cucumber. Some folks are flipping out. We can get through this if we look out for each other. Wholesale industrial suppliers are sitting on excess inventory of many essential items if you buy in bulk and share with your neighbors.

This video speaks to me because in March I cut my hand punching my fridge out of frustration. I was stuck in a high rise in the congested downtown of a big city, grocery stores were out of stock, meetings and appointments were all canceled, coworkers were finding it difficult to adapt to working from home with their kids so they were being difficult, people were getting sick and dying, family members were trying to travel back to the US from overseas, and I couldn't even donate blood because the red cross workers got Covid. It is a shitty time to be alive. But there is plenty of time to find constructive things to do and keep my mind occupied.

So, if you want to change the world, start singing when you're up to your neck in mud.
